Biomass from forestry

I was member of the discussion panel in Vakblad Natuur Bos Landschap of Februari 2011 (pp 8-9), as it went about sustainability of biomass from forests. Is it in contradiction with dead wood and biodiversity creation? My reaction is to be summarized as: I can imagine the fear for taking too much biomass from the forest soil. But it clearly depents on the type (fertileness) and development stadium of the soil. It does not look like biomass yield in forestry in the Netherlands has increased much. Forest owners should look at it as an investment in the quality of their stands (logistics, species mix) and timber; it's a way to manage young forests with more benefits!

Winter camping in Sauerland

Camping at minus 13 (especially breakfast is freezing, but we still fry eggs), hiking through half a meter of snow and ice - the WinterExperience 2010 was great again!

Fl'eau Rafting: two silver medalls!

My sister's raft-team Fl'eau did it again: they won the open Dutch championship in France and became second at the European championship in Italy! So they placed themselves to join the World championship in Costa Rica! CONGRATULATIONS!

Performance of HMN in Utrecht

Yesterday, His Master's Noice played at the opening party of the new Food and Goods Authority nVWA of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture in the Jaarbeurs Halls of Utrecht.

We had a great performance for about 2100 people!
